Derrick Rose Unlikely to Return from Injury
Derrick Rose Unlikely to Return from Injury During 2013 Playoffs
Derrick Rose Chicago Bulls |
If the Chicago Bulls were hoping for good news prior to the start of their first-round playoff matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, they certainly didn't get it.
According to ESPN Chicago's Nick Friedell,
Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau says that Rose won't play in Game 1
against Brooklyn and is likely out for the remainder of the 2013 NBA playoffs. While the news may not be surprising to the Bulls, there was a glimmer of hope that Rose would be back at some point during the postseason to help Chicago make a run at a seventh NBA championship. Instead, Chicago will be up against Deron Williams and the Nets without the 2011 MVP point guard.
Rose, who has been battling back from a left ACL injury, hasn't played in an NBA game since injuring that left knee against the Philadelphia 76ers on April 28 in the first round of last year's NBA playoffs.
Without the star point guard, Chicago will go with Kirk Hinrich at the point, which doesn't present a favorable matchup against a point guard like Deron Williams. The now-10-year veteran is averaging a respectable seven points and five assists per game this year, but his numbers don't compare to Williams' nearly 19 points and seven assists per contest.
With Rose out and Joakim Noah dealing with a foot injury (mentioned in Friedell's Rose article), the Bulls certainly have their work cut out for them against a Nets team that ranked sixth in the NBA during the regular season in points allowed.
